Old Las Palmas

One of the city's early estate neighborhoods.

The area was once used for citrus growing. Residential development began in the 1920s. Prescott T. Stevens was involved in the early subdivision of the area, and Alvah Hicks and his son Harold were important early builders.

As Palm Springs grew as a winter resort, Old Las Palmas became home to actors, studio figures, writers and business owners. Development continued after the war, so the neighborhood contains houses from several different periods.

Spanish estates, ranch houses and desert modernism.

Old Las Palmas is more varied than many Palm Springs neighborhoods. Spanish Colonial and Mediterranean houses sit alongside ranch homes, midcentury modern residences and later renovations.

Hollywood has been part of the neighborhood for decades.

Documented residents have included Dinah Shore, Kirk Douglas, Liberace, Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz, Elizabeth Taylor and Mike Todd, Debbie Reynolds, Donna Reed, William Powell, Lena Horne, Jack Warner, Samuel Goldwyn and Gene Autry.

Large lots and substantial privacy.

Many homes sit on larger parcels than you find in denser parts of central Palm Springs. Pools, guest houses, casitas, mature hedges, gates and deep setbacks are common.

Right beside Uptown.

Old Las Palmas sits immediately west of North Palm Canyon Drive and the Uptown Design District. Shops, galleries, restaurants and cafés are within walking distance from many homes. Downtown Palm Springs and the Palm Springs Art Museum are also close by.
